Variety reports that entertainment attorney Seth Gelblum, a 2016 Tony Award Honoree For Excellence In The Theatre, died on August 8th after a long illness. He was 62.

Gelblum was a Partner and Chair of the Theater Department at Loeb & Loeb LLP, where he practiced in the live stage, motion picture, television and documentary film areas.

His clients included directors Julie Taymor and George C. Wolfe, as well as producers Barry and Fran Weissler and David Binder. For over three decades he had a hand in major Broadway productions including current hits THE LION KING, CHICAGO, THE BOOK OF MORMON and JERSEY BOYS.

Loeb & Loeb LLP's website notes, "In addition to his remarkable legal practice, we remember Seth for his unwavering dedication to pro bono and nonprofit causes. He served as chairman of the board of New Dramatists, the premier playwright support organization in the country. He was also a longtime member of the board of directors of Lawyers for Children, a national model for the representation of children in family court and in class action litigation. Earlier this year, Seth accepted the "LFC Champion" award in recognition of his legacy of support for Lawyers for Children and the organization's young clients. Together with his wife Orren Alperstein, Seth was also a founding board member and officer of the Canavan Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to the eradication of Canavan disease, a rare and fatal genetic neurological disorder, which took the life of their daughter Morgan in 1997."

Variety adds that a private funeral will be held this week with a memorial service taking place after Labor Day.
