Tom Kitt & Brian Yorkey Writing Music for SWEET VALLEY HIGH Movie

According to MTV News, Tony winners Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey are busy writng the score for the movie musical, 'Sweet Valley High.' Based on the book series of the same title, the movie will inlcude a screenplay by Diablo Cody.

Cody told MTV News: 'Oh my gosh! OK, so I am so excited about 'Sweet Valley High.' There's original songs being written for it right now, which is the most exciting development. They're amazing. They're being written by these Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning songwriters from Broadway who are the best," she gushed, confirming that the film will be a musical version of the novels. "Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt, who wrote [the Broadway show] 'Next to Normal'; they're amazing and I'm sorry, I could go on and on. But I'm very excited about 'Sweet Valley High.' It's going to blow people's minds. I haven't really had the chance to talk about this yet, so it's exciting.'

Kitt and Yorkey are best known for creating 'Next to Normal' which opened on Broadway in 2009.

Sweet Valley High is a novel series created by Francine Pascal, who presided over a team of ghostwriters for the duration of the series' creation. The series began in 1983 and ceased publication twenty years later with over 152 books to its name. Over the years, the books were written by many ghostwriters (including Emmy-award winning screenwriter Rodney Vaccaro), and revolved around the lives of teenagers Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, twins who live in Sweet Valley, California.The series quickly gained popularity and spawned several spin-off series. The books are generally classified as young-adult or kids' fiction. The novel Sweet Valley Confidential, which follows the characters as adults, was released in 2011.
