Tisch Fund Pledges to Give $10 Million to Fund Arts Programs Focused on Mental Health

According to the New York Times, The Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund has pledged to donate $10 million to fund arts programs about mental health issues in New York City. The initiative is put into place to help improve the lives of those with dementia and Alzheimer's disease, as well as to combat the stigma around mental illness.

One recipient is Arts & Minds, which brings people with Alzheimer's disease to museums to help create emotional connections and trigger memories. Another recipient is the NYC Mural Arts Project, which aims to end the stigma around mental health issues through public art. Gibney Dance is another recipient, which hosts workshops for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. The Mark Morris Dance Group will receive funding for its classes and workshops for people with Parkinson's disease.

Ms. Tisch seems to believe the initiative will likely grow over time.

"My thinking is that something having to do with arts in the community and health will be a cornerstone of the foundation going forward," Ms. Tisch said.
