A one-night-event will take place at New York's City Center on Monday, January 30, 2006 to celebrate the Public Theater's 50th Anniversary. The New York Times reports today that some of the stars scheduled to appear include Savion Glover, Eartha Kitt, Tonya Pinkins, Rosie Perez, Natalie Portman, Billy Porter, Meryl Streep and Zack Braff.

Directed by Tony Award-winner James Lapine, with songs from Hair and A Chorus Line to Runaways, Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk, Caroline, or Change, and many others, The Public Sings will be a rare opportunity to hear legendary artists perform selections from signature Public Theater musicals that engaged the social and political issues of their times and reshaped our experience of American musical theater.
