With a thrilling score, a spectacular design, and an ensemble of over 65 actors, singers and musicians, THE LORD OF THE RINGS is the biggest, most ambitious theatrical production ever staged.

The international creative team, led by critically acclaimed director Matthew Warchus and including award-winning designer Rob Howell and the celebrated choreographer Peter Darling, has combined all three books into one unmissable theatrical event.

The book and lyrics are by Shaun McKenna and Matthew Warchus. The score is by India's most popular composer, A.R. Rahman, and the renowned Finnish group Värttinä, collaborating with Christopher Nightingale.

The World Premiere production will begin performances on February 2, 2006 at The Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto, Canada. The gala opening night will be March 23, 2006.

Casting has been ongoing since the production was announced on March 16, 2005. Over four thousand performers have already been auditioned across Canada. Auditions will continue throughout the summer, with rehearsals scheduled to begin in October 2005.

Teams of engineers, carpenters, painters, welders, prop-makers, armourers, cutters and seamstresses are focusing their efforts on realising the design for the stage; and, after an eight-month build, Rob Howell's inventive and spectacular stage floor, weighing 30 tonnes and costing C$1,200,000, is nearing completion in the UK, ready for shipping to Toronto,

THE LORD OF THE RINGS is a Kevin Wallace Limited Production, presented by Kevin Wallace and Saul Zaentz, in association with David and Ed Mirvish and Michael Cohl.
