As Houston's premiere non-profit musical theatre company, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is dedicated to serving Houston through community engagement, arts education, and our commitment to artistic excellence by producing the highest quality musical theatre in Houston.

The TUTS Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) production of Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT will go on in Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts with a slightly altered performance schedule.

As a result of Hurricane Harvey, we regretfully must cancel both Friday performances and the Saturday matinee performance of the show. The Saturday evening performance at 7:30 p.m. will go on as scheduled.

"The show must go on, we must persevere and go forward; that's the spirit that Houston is showing the whole world right now. TUTS and our students want to honor that spirit by giving the people in our community, who are going through so much right now, an evening that delves into the existing world of punk rock-n-roll inhabited by Green Day's iconic music," said Dan Knechtges, Artistic Director of Theatre Under The Stars.

After accommodating those who have already purchased tickets to the other previously scheduled performances which were cancelled, we have 200 tickets left to the Saturday evening performance. As a way to say thank you to the first responders for all they do, to our friends in the Theater District and our fellow Houstonians who may need a few moments of relief, we would like to offer these tickets for free on a first come, first served basis.

"I have never been more proud to be part of the greater Houston community than I am now. TUTS is so grateful for the support of our extended family, our community, we wanted an opportunity to say thank you and offer a few moments reprieve to our hometown heroes and as many people as possible," said Hillary Hart, Executive Director of Theatre Under The Stars.

Additionally, the dress rehearsal on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. will be open to the public free of charge for those who wish to see the show, but are unable to attend on Saturday evening.

To reserve tickets, visit TUTS.com/AmericanIdiot or call the TUTS Box Office at 713-558-TUTS(8887). All seats that have been reserved, but are not claimed 15 minutes prior to curtain will be released to the Standby Ticket line.

After the performance, the cast of AMERICAN IDIOT will be present in the lobby collecting donations for the Mayor Turner's Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of Johnny, Tunny, and Will who are struggling to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. When they leave the constraints of their hometown for the thrills of city life, their paths quickly diverge as Tunny enters the armed forces, Will is called back home to attend to familial responsibilities, and Johnny's attention becomes divided by a seductive love interest and a hazardous new friendship.

The story of the two-time Tony-Award-winning production is fueled by music from Green Day's American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown albums. All music for AMERICAN IDIOT was composed by Green Day. Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the lyrics, and co-wrote - along with Michael Mayer - the book for the musical.
