Marymount Manhattan, a liberal arts college in New York City and home to a thriving performing arts program, is once again partnering with the award-winning York Theatre Company to offer performers, ages 18-27, a concentrated 5-week new musical theatre intensive. Program runs July 10 – August 13, 2006.

The Intensive includes seminars with musical theatre professionals and daily structured classes in dance and performance technique to enhance students' technical skills. Participants will explore and perform new musical theatre compositions by emerging writers whose work has been featured at the York Theatre, and also have the opportunity to see musicals on and off Broadway. The Intensive will culminate in the performance of an original musical revue on the York Theatre stage at Citicorp Center.

The daily classes will take place at Marymount Manhattan College, conveniently located on the east side of Manhattan. The program is priced at $1850 for current Marymount students/alumni and $2150 for others. Housing is available.

"York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) is the only theatre in New York City - and one of very few in the world - dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals and preserving notable ones from the past. For over three decades, the York's intimate, imaginative style of producing both new and classic musicals has resulted in critical acclaim, multiple awards, and acclamation from artists and audiences alike. York's Mainstage series is made up entirely of new musicals in full production; more than fifty revivals of musical gems have been seen in its acclaimed 'Musicals in Mufti' series, over forty readings of new musicals are produced annually in its Developmental Reading Series and there are now over 20 commercial recordings available of York shows," state press notes. York productions which have moved to extended runs both on Broadway and Off include Jolson & Company, Sweeney Todd, Pacific Overtures, Souvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins and The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!).
