The New York Pops Will Honor Cyndi Lauper at 36th Birthday Gala

The New York Pops will honor Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award-winning music icon Cyndi Lauper at its 36th Birthday Gala celebration on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. The festive concert features some of Lauper's greatest hits performed by The New York Pops, under the music direction of Steven Reineke, together with a starry line-up of guest artists to be announced.

The gala evening additionally honors Kenneth W. Lowe, Former Chairman, President and CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive (Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, etc.), for his remarkable achievements and contributions to the media landscape.

Co-Chairs for the event will include Lisa Barbaris, President of So What Management, Jeffrey Sagansky, CEO and Chairman of Platinum Eagle Acquisition, and David Zaslav, President and CEO of Discovery. Additional co-chairs will be announced at a later date.

"It is a dream come true for The New York Pops to be honoring none other than Cyndi Lauper this year," said Steven Reineke, Music Director and Conductor. "We are so excited to explore the huge canon of work she has created and to work with her to produce a mega-hit concert. From 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' all the way up to Cyndi's Tony Award winning score for Kinky Boots, there's just so much great material. This is exactly who we are at The New York Pops-'a different kind of orchestra.'"

"We are delighted to honor Ken Lowe, an outstanding CEO in the media and entertainment space at The New York Pops 36th Birthday Gala," said Jim Read, Chairman of The New York Pops Board of Directors. "His impressive tenure as President and CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive and his dedication to furthering arts in the community make him a natural fit for The New York Pops. We are proud to be able to honor him at Carnegie Hall in April."

The concert features participants from The New York Pops' Kids On Stage program which provides middle school students access to the professional performance process through an audition process, comprehensive rehearsal period, and final performance with the orchestra on the Carnegie Hall stage, in addition to a special performance with the Camp Broadway Kids Ensemble.

Proceeds from the Gala support the organization's PopsEd music education programs. The concert is followed by a black tie dinner and dance at the Mandarin Oriental New York.
