The Directors Company will present the world premiere of The Milliner, a new play by Suzanne Glass.  Novelist Glass, the best-selling author of The Interpreter (credited in the film of the same name), makes her theatrical debut with this new drama.

Directed by Mark Clements (Speaking in Tongues), with music direction by Warren Wills, The Milliner begins performances on October 24th, and runs through December 17, 2006, at  East 13th Street Theatre (136 East 13th Street).  Opening Night is set for November 1st.

"The Milliner is a tale of passion, fashion and music.   Drawn in part from the author's own family experience, The Milliner is the story of Wolfgang, talented creator of hats.  As a Jew on trial in Germany after the end of the Second World War, Wolfgang begins to tell his tale," state press notes.

"In love with Germany, Wolfgang is forced to leave for England with his wife in 1938 and longs to go 'home,' to the culture and cabaret of Berlin.  In 1946, despite the Nazi's murder of his mother, he does just that. The consequences of the hatmaker's return to his Motherland are cataclysmic."

The complete cast of The Milliner includes Michel Gill, Julia Haubner, Caralyn Kozlowski, Maria Cellario, Donna Davis, Steven Hauck, and Glenn Kalison.

The first of her two internationally acclaimed novels, The Interpreter, was inspired by her early career as a multi-lingual simultaneous interpreter.  Her second novel, The Sculptors (Random House UK),  revolves around an Israeli female plastic surgeon and an Egyptian sculptor.  She has also been renowned for her work as a journalist. Her popular lifestyle column "The Looking Glass" ran for several years in the Financial Times.

The design team for The Milliner includes Todd Ivins (scenery), Gregory Gale (costumes) and Jeff Nellis (lighting), Brian Kim (projections).

Tickets are available through TheaterMania.com (212-352-3101).  The performance schedule for The Milliner is:

Tuesday at 7pm
Wednesday-Friday at 8 pm
Saturday at 3 pm and 8 pm
