The Met Presents Special Conversations Inspired By KERRY JAMES MARSHALL: MASTRY, 12/15

In conjunction with the exhibition Kerry JameS Marshall: Mastry, on view October 25, 2016-January 29, 2017 at The Met Breuer, and to illuminate Marshall's singular work and practice, The Met will present several events and discussions in December and January that will celebrate the major themes in the show as well aS Marshall's artistry.

On Thursday, December 15, An Evening with Kerry JameS Marshall will feature the artist himself in a conversation about his work. Marshall will be joined by William C. Rhoden, former New York Times columnist and currently writer-at-large for ESPN's The Undefeated, the race, culture, and sports program. This event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium. This event is at capacity, and space is limited.

The conversation will also be live streamed on The Met's Facebook.

Part of MetFridays, Art School-The Studio will take place on January 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Museum visitors will drop in for talks led by creatives from a variety of disciplines. Curators will discuss how they support the work of artists from diverse backgrounds and how The Met collection continues to evolve and respond to issues of diversity. Contemporary artists will lead sessions on the fundamental skills of drawing. This event will take place at The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Breuer, and is free with Museum admission.

Kerry JameS Marshall-A Creative Convening, on Saturday, January 28, is an all-day symposium from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium. Compelling voices will gather for an exploration of radical creativity inspired by the ideas, practice, and content in the work of Kerry JameS Marshall.
