The Astana Ballet Theater will present the "Kazakhstan Astana Ballet Gala" at Lincoln Center. The performance, presenting choreographic works of varying genres, is part of the "Modern Kazakhstan Culture in the Global World," a project of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ministry of Culture and Sport. The performance will be on January 17, 7 pm, at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, 1941 Broadway, NYC. Admission is free. Tickets will be distributed, first come first served, on January 17 at 6 pm. For information, contact 212.707.8566.

Returning to Lincoln Center for a second time, the evening will include an original program featuring contrasting scenes of popular ballets and divertissements that reflect Kazakhstan's culture through the language of dance and movement. "The task that the troupe of the theater has to tackle is not an easy one - to attract the attention of the public to our culture, to present the best of the national and modern ballet art of Kazakhstan," says Valery Kuzembav, the director of the theater.

The program of the Astana Ballet Theater at Lincoln Center includes three primary works; Heritage of the Great Steppe, miniature scenes and moments taken from national ballets rich in culture and color. All aspects of this collaborative dance are marked by emotional folk traditions, expressive music and remarkable artistic imagery. Love Fear Loss, a ballet set to the songs of Edith Piaf (choreographed by Ricardo Amarante) and inspired by the remarkable life story of the singer, is a dance about emotional attachment moved by Piaf's hymns of love that took the world by storm. A Fuego Lento tells the story of nascent feelings of anxiousness, emotional heat, and the force of first love. The dance mimics the powerful wave when excitement takes over the body and desire slowly burns within. The object of affection is the center of the world and the meaning of life is in love (music by Lalo Shifrin, Astor Piazzola, Carlos Gardel, choreography by Ricardo Amarante).
