The Telluride Playwrights Festival, now in its second year, is an intensive eight-day workshop for serious writers and directors to further their work and observe readings of their plays before audiences.

Last year the Festival's producers, Sparky Productions, brought a small group of actors from as far as the Royal Shakespeare Company in England to help serve the playwrights who were committed to further developing their work.  They spent an intense week together every day, combing through the plays, line by line.  Then at the end of the week, readings were performed in the evenings along with workshops where the public were invited and encouraged to comment on the plays.

This year the festival will take place in the beautiful town of Telluride's San Juan Mountains from June 10 to June 17, providing a safe, creative environment where plays can be re-written, polished, performed and discussed.

The objective is to create an intense, vibrant and exciting atmosphere where theatrical plays can germinate, away from the critical glare of a large city.

The Telluride Playwrights Festival advisory board includes Laura Linney (up-coming Les Liaisons Dangereuses), Robert Dubac (The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron), Chip Walton (Artistic Director, Curious Theatre Company, Denver, Colorado) and Nicholas Day (Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal National Theatre Company, Great Britain). New York playwright/director, Sasha Cucciniello, will serve as this year's Executive Director. Jennie Franks (Stuck! Frigid Festival) is the Festival's Founder and Artistic Director.

The Telluride Playwrights Festival Board will inform the four participating playwrights on Monday, March 31.
