THE MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR AT STYLES to Open at Edmonds Driftwood Players

Edmonds Driftwood Players will present a new stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles, adapted by USA Today bestselling author Kate Danley and directed by Bryar Freed-Golden. Performances run May 15 through June 7, 2026.

Based on Dame Christie's first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles introduces audiences to the famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Set in 1916, the story follows Lieutenant Arthur Hastings, recovering from World War I injuries at the estate of his friend John Cavendish. When a sudden poisoning occurs, every member of the household becomes a suspect and Poirot must unravel a complex web of secrets, misdirection, and deception to uncover the truth.

This adaptation remains faithful to Christie's original work while translating its intricate plotting and suspense for the stage. The production continues Kate Danley's focus on elevating women's voices in theatre, and honors Dame Christie's legacy as a pioneering force in mystery fiction.

The cast includes Seattle legend Chris Ensweiler as Hercule Poirot; newcomer Duncan Thorvilson as Poirot's partner, Lieutenant Hastings; and a mix of established regional artists and new faces. Director Bryar Freed-Golden brings her extensive resume from Off Broadway to film/TV (Grimm), and 37 years as an educational artist, informed by her training with Michael Shurtleff, Stella Adler, Gene Frankel, and Uta Hagen.

The production runs approximately two hours, including a 15-minute intermission. Evening performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at
8:00 PM, matinee performances on Sundays at 2:00 PM. Performances take place at Edmonds Driftwood Players in Edmonds, Washington.
