The Circus Came To Town, a new play by J.T. Atwood, will be presented in a three-night run at The Rat NYC on May 6, 7, and 10 at 7:30 p.m.

The play follows 14-year-old Aidan, a farmer’s son seeking an escape from small-town life and violence, whose world shifts when a traveling circus arrives. As Aidan is drawn into the orbit of the circus, his friend Gus becomes captivated by a gunslinger known as Coyote Colson.

The production is directed by Atwood, who also appears as Jester. It is produced by Luke Sage, who will play Coyote Colson, with Caroline Belangia serving as marketing head for Moojestic Lion Productions.

The cast includes Ethaniel Curcio as Aidan, Jake Ensey as Gus, Humphrey Hills III as Claude, Avery Avellino as Boingo, Hunter Duggan as Jay, Sara Duplancic as Lyra, Max Heron as George, and Erin Gayan as Calypso. Katelynn Holt and Gared Thrush will appear as ensemble and swing.

The creative team includes Madi Daning as movement coordinator and assistant director, Grace Gardner as stage manager, Kyra Siciliano as Costume Designer, and Alex Simpson as sound designer.

Additional programming will include a pre-show performance at 7:00 p.m. by indie rock band The Mothers of Lovers, intermission performances by clown artist Julia Finke, and live painting by Mallory Green.

The Circus Came To Town was previously workshopped in partnership with The Lost Colony in 2024.
