TEEN DAD World Premiere, JITNEY and More Set for Passage Theatre 42 Season
The season will also feature a solo performance festival, and more.
Passage Theatre Company, the only professional theater organization in the state capital, has publicly unveiled plans for their forty-second season, which will run from June 2026 into 2027. The forty-second season will be the company's largest since before 2020 and includes a festival of solo performances, a world premiere, a conceptual love story inspired by the work of Miles Davis, and Passage's first-ever production of the work of August Wilson. Passage Theatre's Season 42 is supported in-part by funding through the NJEDA's A.R.T. - Phase II Grant Program.
WORD ON FRONT 250: THE UNTOLD AMERICA
Starting the season will be WORD ON FRONT 250: THE UNTOLD AMERICA, a solo performance festival with musical acts and other running June 26-July 12. This three week theatre festival will cover not only the birth of our country but the multitude of unique voices and perspectives that make up American life in the past 250 years.
Teen Dad
The world premiere of Teen Dad by Adrienne Dawes will run September 18-October 11. This play subverts popular regional theatre "kitchen-sink beach house dramedy" to share a heartfelt, comedic exploration of generational trauma and recovery in a mixed-race Black and Latin American family. This play will include expanded community outreach and theatre-as-therapy services thanks to a gift from the Horizon Foundation of New Jersey.
Jitney
Following this will be Passage's production of August Wilson's Jitney, running November 27-December 20. Station owner Becker struggles to manage his four drivers while navigating the sudden return of his estranged son, Booster (who will be played by Passage Theatre Executive Artistic Director Brishen Miller), just as their station is slated for demolition. This production is sponsored by Isles and GoTrenton.
The Real Book
To close the season, Passage Theatre artist-in-residence Ozzie Jones will direct a new production of his conceptual love story Kind of Blue, inspired by the Miles Davis album of the same name. Kind of Blue is a narrative poem and play from Ozzie's jazz-inspired series, The Real Book, which translates the soul of Miles Davis's legendary 1959 album into a theatrical experience.
Performances will be held at the Mill Hill Playhouse in Trenton, New Jersey unless otherwise specified. Tickets to WORD ON FRONT are scheduled to go on sale May 29, and tickets to the rest of the season will be available in July.
