TDF Announces Sign Language & Open Caption Performances

Butley, starring Nathan Lane; Twyla Tharp's The Times Are A-Changing; and The Manhattan Theatre Club's production of Losing Louie are among the shows that will be open captioned and/or sign language-interpreted this fall for theatregoers with hearing loss.

The service isoffered by Theatre Development Fund's Theatre Access Project (TAP), which is TDF's invitation to the performing arts for people with physical disabilities. The following is a complete list of this fall's open captioned and sign language interpreted performances:

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! at the Hilton Theatre:

Sunday, October 29 at 5 pm, sign language interpreted
Sunday, November 5 at 5 pm, open captioned

The Times They Are A-Changin' at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre:

Tuesday, October 31 at 7 pm, open captioned

Losing Louie at the Biltmore Theatre:

Saturday, November 18 at 2 pm, open captioned

Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre:

This production will be simultaneously sign language-interpreted and open captioned through "Talking Hands, " TDF's outreach to elementary and secondary school students with hearing loss.

Through TDF's Theatre Access Project, special discount tickets in the orchestra are set aside monthly for theatregoers who are deaf or hard of hearing, partially sighted, blind, require aisle seating for medical reasons, use wheelchairs or cannot climb stairs.
 
Theatregoers with disabilities may join TAP's mailing list which includes ticket offers to open captioned and sign language interpreted performances, where the seat locations are in view of either the open caption box or sign language interpreters.
