Student Blog: The College Audition Conservatory

College planning is already well underway as June comes to a close. Don't get too relaxed over the summer if you're a teen intending on auditioning for acting and musical theatre programs in the fall. Theatre students always have something going on whether it is audition intensives, conservatory programs, dance, singing, or acting workshops. 

 Students who desire to pursue musical theatre as an occupation are tasked with the job of finding around ten to twenty schools to apply to. A BFA in musical theatre is one of the most challenging and demanding majors, with acceptance rates as low as 5 to 9% and an average of 20 students per program. 

Fortunately, students have the option to work with mentors during this intimidating process. The College Audition was

  founded by Tim Evanicki and offers students and parents the assistance that's needed during the preparation, audition, and decision-making phases of the college audition process. The College Audition also provides opportunities for pre-screen filming, mock audition seminars, and on-campus audition workshops!

What could sound any more thrilling? OH, I know! 

Additionally, students have the option of enrolling in the College Audition Conservatory, a week-long summer intensive. Faculty from some of the top musical theater programs in the country and industry experts instruct and train students at the Conservatory. Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will host the eight-day intensive this year. Eleven of the most prestigious programs in musical theatre will counsel students in a range of masterclasses

Earlier in the month, students submitted dancing videos, and they were divided into several color groups based on their skill levels. This is done so that each workshop can accommodate no more than ten students. Students prepare a selection of songs and monologues in advance to perform at Conservatory. 

The nighttime performance cabarets provide students the chance to showcase their artistic talents after a demanding training day. This year, the choices include a Celebrity Masterclass taught by Faith Prince, Drag Queen Karaoke, Miscast, and Piano Bar. Although it is exhilarating to perform for several industry and college experts, the Conservatory's most inviting and attractive quality is the freedom to be who you are. It is always encouraged for students to express themselves in ways that feel comfortable to them. Everyone feels more at ease knowing that the teenagers are in a place where they will be welcomed and supported.

With mock auditions for over 20 college programs at the end of the week, students will receive fast feedback and helpful critique. To prepare for college auditions in the early fall and winter, students will use the feedback they received from the mock audition to identify their areas for development.

I am beyond thrilled to be attending Conservatory in nine days! I feel more prepared than ever due to the assistance of my coach, Tim Evanicki. I am eager to grow in my craft with one-on-one assistance from professionals throughout the country. I'm looking forward to this learning experience and will report back on it later.
