Steven Reineke to Conduct Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Symphonic Band, 4/30

The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps (LGBAC) Symphonic Band will welcome New York Pops Music Director Steven Reineke to the podium during its Spring 2011 concert, Once Upon a Musical Time, to conduct the world premiere of his new piece for concert band. The band will perform this concert, the second in its 31st concert season, on Sat., April 30, 2011 at 8 p.m. in Peter Norton Symphony Space, located at 2537 Broadway at 95th Street.

"We are honored by the opportunity to premiere a major new work from one of the nation's most sought-after pops conductors, composers and arrangers," said Brian Worsdale, artistic director and conductor of the Symphonic Band.

This world premiere was inspired by the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, which is fitting for a concert dedicated to the music that makes our all-time favorite stories, myths, and legends come alive. Reineke and Worsdale will discuss the world premiere during a special pre-concert discussion at 7:15 p.m. hosted by NY1 Producer Frank DiLella. Reineke will title this new masterwork prior to its debut.

The band will also perform music taken from the stories of The Lord of the Rings, Sweeney Todd, and Casey at the Bat, among others.

Tubby the Tuba will showcase a performance by world renowned tubist Marcus Rojas. Rojas has played on more than 350 recordings and performed with anumber of ensembles, including The Metropolitan Opera and Jazz at Lincoln Center.Tituss Burgess, Broadway star of The Little Mermaid and Guys and Dolls, will narrate the tale of a tuba searching for a song of his own as Rojas performs.

WNBC Channel 4 New York Meteorologist Raphael Miranda will serve as host for the evening.

The LGBAC is the premier Marching and Symphonic Band for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender musicians and their friends within the New York City metropolitan area.
