Steel Magnolias will play its final performances this week at the
Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45th Street, east of Broadway), with the show set to close on Sunday, July 31st at 8 PM
after 23 previews and 136 regular performances. The show's last performance will benefit The Actors' Fund of America.Directed by Jason Moore, Robert Harling's Steel Magnolias opened on Broadway on Monday, April 4, 2005. The show stars Delta Burke as Truvy,
Christine Ebersole as M'Lynn, Rebecca Gayheart as Shelby, Marsha Mason
as Ouiser, Lily Rabe as Annelle and Frances Sternhagen as Clairee. Steel Magnolias "follows the lives of six indomitable Southern women as they
share their personal triumphs, tragedies, beauty tips, recipes, and
more than the occasional piece of scandalous gossip in Truvys beauty
shop in Chinquapin, Louisiana." The show's original long-running off-Broadway production at the Lucille
Lortel Theatre led to an acclaimed and popular 1989 film that starred
Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Darryl Hannah, Olympia
Dukakis and Julia Roberts.
Performances are Tuesday through
Saturday evenings at 8pm, matinees Wednesdays at 2pm, Saturdays at 2pm
