Olympics and Karma at the Staten Island Children's Museum February 12 - 18, 2010

Olympic time is perfect to learn some geography and some food trivia
On, Fridays we will be cooking different countries!

Bacon - February 12 - "Canadian"

Saturday, February 13 - The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art is presenting - Classical Indian Dance and Traditional Stories from Hindu and Buddhist cultures. This presentation will create an understanding of the arts from the Himalayan region. Dancer, storyteller, and educator, Manju Prasad-Rao presents classical dances and inspiring ancient stories from the mythology, culture and folklore of South Asia. These ancient stories address worldly values of wealth, pleasure, and the struggle for survival , and provide lessons in niti, or the right conduct of life. They also include the concept of karma or causal connections between actions and their consequences. Many of these stories were used in the past for educating princes, kings, and political leaders, but are now being enjoyed by everyone. The workshop begins at 2 p.m.

The Museum will be open FREE to the public on the following
Northfield Bank Foundation Cool School Holidays:
Monday, February 15th - Presidents Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On this School Holiday, visitors can participate in the Staten Island Children's Museum's
Game Show - The Olympic Knowledge Challenge. Answer simple questions about the Olympics. Contestants should arrive at 3 p.m. and can win authentic Olympic pins.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - WIW programs are free with Museum admission.
Clay Day-Wednesdays- Aspiring sculptors can create works of art with special air-dry clay.
Paint Day - Thursdays - Picasso may have started like this!
Kidz Cook- Fridays- Future chefs practice recipes and sample some fancy food.
While at the Museum, families can visit hands-on, fabulous interactive exhibits: Block Harbor, The Big Game, Bugs and Other Insects, Great Explorations, Portia's Playhouse, Sea of Boats, Ladder 11, D.B.'s Fantastic Machines & House About It! and more! Museum Hours are noon - 5 p.m. when NYCity public schools are open and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. when NYCity public schools are closed (including weekends). Admission is $6 per person; children under 1 and members are admitted free. Every day, join Animal Time when youngsters can assist our educators in caring for our birds, bugs, fish and guinea pig. Telling tales out of school is okay everyday when visitors hear stories from around the world. Grandparents are admitted free on Wednesdays.
