The Amas Musical Theatre Academy will present the new musical Sprang Thang, at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street. The show, directed by Christopher Scott (Off-Broadway, My Secret Garden and Golf! The Musical) with book, music and lyrics by Goldee Greene (Praise House), will play eight performances, May 11th through May 20th. Choreography is by Monica Johnson (Working, The Me Nobody Knows).

Press releases state, "Set in Spring 1969, nerdy sophomore Apricot Taylor has to direct four of the toughest girls at Northampton High in the gi-normous school talent show. Against all odds, the girls bond with the characters they play in Apricot's wild historical revue. Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington take over the stage in the Amas Academy's zany world premiere musical comedy, Sprang Thang."

Sprang Thang is presented by students of the Amas' Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy, which recently produced acclaimed productions of Footloose, The Me Nobody Knows, and On the Town. The performing arts training program for New York City students ages 14-20 has been running since the 1970s.

Sprang Thang performances run May 11-20, Fridays and Saturday s at 7:30PM, and Saturdays and Sundays at 3PM. The Players Theatre is at 115 MacDougal Street, at Minetta Lane and West 3rd Street. Tickets are $20 or $13 for Students and Seniors, and are available through www.theatermania.com or by calling (212) 352-3101.  For group discounts, call (212) 563-2565.
