Impresario Ross Mollison announced today that Spiegelworld 2008 will return to the South Street Seaport, Pier 17, for its third annual summer carnival, running August 6 to November 2, 2008.  Once again, Spiegelworld will deliver a non-stop program of ground-breaking shows, intimate concerts, brazen burlesque, the city's top DJs and superb dining, all at one stunning location.

Mr. Mollison said, "The Salon Perdu, our much-loved vintage Spiegeltent, will once again be at the heart of Spiegelworld 2008.  Following our inaugural Miami Beach season, it will be nice to shake the sand out of the old lady, and see her back up on her favorite spot in the world: under the Brooklyn Bridge on the East River.  This year she will be joined by another beautiful hand-hewn historic venue, The Deluxe.  We're thrilled that this will be the first time the USA has seen two Belgian travelling palaces of entertainment, side by side."

Mr. Mollison also announced that this year's Spiegelworld New York will present the world premiere of Désir, a daring new theatrical circus experience.

"Never before has such a lavish production been created for a Spiegeltent," Mr. Mollison said.  "We have assembled the most beautiful aerial and acrobatic acts from around the world, some of which have never been seen before in such an intimate performance space."

Inspired by the sexual, intellectual and artistic adventurers of early 20th century Paris, Désir will take audiences backstage at the greatest nightclub the world has known.  Working with the circular design of the Spiegeltent, the creative team, including former Sydney Theater Company director Wayne Harrison, choreographer John "Cha Cha" O'Connell (Enchanted, Moulin Rouge, "2008 Academy Awards Presentation") and music director Josh Abrahams (Moulin Rouge), have created a acrobatic interpretation of La Ronde (The Blue Room) where one fleeting love affair is merely an entrée to the next encounter.

The designers have collaborated with legendary Parisian jewelry house, Boucheron, whose sense of theatricality, exclusivity, sensuality and indulgence will inform the design aesthetic of Désir.

Mr. Mollison said, "This is an exciting collaboration.  Boucheron has been creating unique jewelry for some of the world's most fascinating personalities for 150 years.  The value of the specially created jewelry we will see in Désir has not been specified, but audiences will be able to get up close to the Boucheron experience at an opulent jewelry exhibition which will be a part of the Spiegelworld village this year."

Absinthe, the number one NYC summer event since 2006, will again take New York by storm with a brand new line up of talent from the seediest and sexiest cabaret dens of the world.  Get ready to witness Icarian Games from Italy, the Duo Sergio from the Ukraine and the Duo Ssens from Quebec.  If you missed being 'Willered' in 2007, now is your chance to line up for the roller-skating ride of your life with The Willers, the most thrilling and entertaining roller skating couple ever; and direct from Russia, Spiegelworld invites audiences to encounter the world's most beautiful woman, Princess Anya, joining Absinthe for all eyes to behold.

Spiegelworld 2008 will also feature the filthy-rich host of Absinthe, The Gazillionaire, in the premiere of his very own fully-staged variety show of questionable entertainment: The Gazillionaire's Late Nite Lounge, playing six nights a week in The Deluxe, with his band Fish Circus.

Other performances at Spiegelworld 2008 will include:

    * Celebrating the opening of the third annual Spiegelworld Concert Series, Meow Meow & Justin Bond take the stage together for the first time inaugurating the "Heavy Petting" sessions led by Emmy award-winning Lance Horne.
    * The New York Fringe Festival will call Spiegelworld 2008 and the Deluxe Spiegeltent home for the month of August with their own eclectic range of live entertainment.
    * A program of intimate concerts including Martha Wainwright, Amanda Palmer, Ute Lemper, Justin Bond, The Bird and The Bee, Deerhoof, The Yard Dogs Road Show, The Citizens Band and many others.

Spiegelworld 2008 has also announced the North American launch of the much anticipated Headphone Disco at Pier 17 this summer direct from Europe.  Mr. Mollison said today, "Imagine two DJs, two separate channels on wireless headphones, 1,000 people dancing, and absolutely no sound apart from the crowd singing along.  It's hilarious to watch and fantastically fun to participate in."

Spiegelworld 2008 presents two Spiegeltents featuring an all new version of the wildly popular Absinthe, the world premiere of Désir, and an array of music and variety acts, from August 6 – November 2, 2008 at New York City's South Street Seaport, under the Brooklyn Bridge at Pier 17.  Tickets, ranging in price from $25 - $69, with dinner/show packages available for $100, can be purchased through www.Spiegelworld.com or by phoning Ticket Central at 212 279 4200.  For incredible deals on groups of 6 or more telephone 646 536 8130.  For more information, please visit  www.Spiegelworld.com.
