Spamalot to Open in Melbourne in November

The Tony Award-winning musical Monty Python's Spamalot is bound for Melbourne, Australia.

Spamalot will begin performances at Her Majesty's Theatre on November 23rd, with a gala opening set for December 8th.  The production follows Spamalot's previous incarnations on Broadway, in London and on tour, with another staging to open in Las Vegas next month.  Mike Nichols, who won a Tony for directing the show on Broadway, will once again helm Spamalot.  Casting will be announced.

Boyett Ostar Productions will produce the transfer.  The first tickets will go on sale in July.

Spamalot is written by Eric Idle and is lovingly ripped off from the motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin.  Spamalot features lyrics and a Grammy Award-winning score by Eric Idle and long-time Python collaborator John Du Prez. The show is directed by Oscar and Tony Award-winning legend Mike Nichols.  

With choreography by Casey Nicholaw, Monty Python's Spamalot features sets and costumes by Tony Award-winner Tim Hatley, lighting design is by Hugh Vanstone and sound design is by ACME Sound Partners.

Monty Python's Spamalot, which opened on Broadway on March 17th, 2005, has been honored with dozens of awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Original Cast Recording and three Tony Awards, including Best Musical.  The original cast recording is available on Decca Broadway.
