The national touring production of Monty Python's Spamalot has reported the highest gross in its history this week as the show grossed $1,319,042 ($1,465,761.00 Canadian) at Toronto's Canon Theatre during the week Monday, August 21 - Sunday, August 27.

Following Toronto, Spamalot will begin performances in Pittsburgh starting September 12.

Directed by eight-time Tony Award-winner Mike Nichols, Monty Python's Spamalot features a book by Eric Idle, based on the screenplay of Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Monty Python creators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin, with music and lyrics by Eric Idle and John Du Prez.  Tony Award nominee Casey Nicholaw is the choreographer.

"Lovingly 'ripped-off' from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python's Spamalot is the winner of three 2005 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Director (Mike Nichols), as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Musical," according to press notes.

The original cast recording of Spamalot won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

Sold-out since it opened on March 17, 2005, Monty Python's Spamalot has remained one of the hottest tickets on Broadway, continuing to break box office records at The Shubert Theatre.
