Showboat Circus Presents DeadPan Alley Featuring Will Shaw Today

This year the Showboat Circus is once again coming to Tribeca with old-time family entertainment aboard a century-old covered wooden barge. DeadPan Alley, starring Will Shaw, is a one-hour, one-man performance of physical comedy, verbal wit and expert skill. Audiences of all ages will be thrilled with astounding and hilarious displays of juggling and balance, fancy cowboy roping, flying boomerangs, rare and amazing spinning top manipulations, hat tricks, sight gags, audience participation and clowning steeped in the traditions of the great comedians from the silent film era to the present. DeadPan Alley also features serious (and not-so serious) musical presentations with the piano and harmonica. Will Shaw has performed on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Sesame Street and was an instructor for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus Clown College.

The show is one-day only today, June 22 at 1 & 4 pm. Advance Tickets: Adults $13, kids - $10. Tickets at the door (when available): Adults $15, kids $12.

Circus goers can also take part in free Sunday afternoon family-friendly activities on Pier 25 and aboard the steamship Lilac, including knot-tying, fishing and catching crabs and other river critters.

THE SHOWBOAT CIRCUS is again part of the North River Historic Ship Festival June 20 - 22. The sixth annual ship festival features free boat rides aboard the Tugboat Pegasus and the John J. Harvey Fireboat, and dockside visits of the steam-powered LILAC and Waterfront Museum. For more information on the Festival visit http://www.nrhss.org.

Hudson River Park's Pier 25 is located in Tribeca, Manhattan along West Street at N. Moore Street. Nearest subway stations are the Franklin Street stop on the 1 or Canal Street on the A/C/E (exit at Walker Street.) N. Moore Street is one block north of Franklin Street or a block south of Walker Street. Walk west on N. Moore to the pier.

The Waterfront Museum will be participating in the Festival from June 20-23. Come aboard and marvel at the George Rhoads Ball Machine and view From Shore to Shore: Boat Builders & Boat Yards Alive Today hanging on the barge's walls. The show explores the worlds of craftsmen and the places where boats and ships are still being worked on today. Exhibition panels and accompanying interviews highlight profiles of master craftsmen, their tools and the historic boat yards where they work.

Hosted by Captain David Sharps aboard the beautifully restored Lehigh Valley No. 79, the Waterfront Museum is housed aboard this only surviving wooden example of "The Lighterage Era" (1860 -1960) -- an era in transportation and commerce history when goods were transported by tug and barge across the NY Harbor.
