Jane Scheckter's "The Moon, the Stars, Albert Einstein and Love" at the Metropolitan Room Five Nights: November 8, 9, 15, 16 and 17. Accompanied by Tedd Firth, Tom Hubbard and Peter Grant. Jane Scheckter's program features heavenly-inspired songs by the great songwriters of the Twentieth Century http://www.nonprofitenginesite.com/images/Scheckter-Headshot-Small.jpg

The show is comprised of great songs inspired by the heavens and written by some of the legendary lyricists of the Twentieth Century, including Johnny Mercer, E.Y. Harburg, Leo Robin, Ira Gershwin, Johnny Burke, Sammy Cahn, Dorothy Fields, Dorothy Parker, Lorenz Hart, Oscar Hammerstein, Mitchell Parish, The Bergmans and Comden & Green. She will be backed by the swinging trio of Tedd Firth, her long-time musical director, on piano, Tom Hubbard on bass and Peter Grant on drums. Erv Raible is the director.

"While the heavens have posed great theoretical quandaries to scientists like Einstein, they provided very down-to-earth inspiration for composers and lyricists, who saw great mystical and romantic images in every star and every phase of the moon," Jane says. "And not one of them rhymes 'June' with 'moon'...at least in my show!

"Ever since cavemen saw the moon and the stars as entities to be worshipped and feared, even the writers of our great standards saw their power to enchant us and guide us, blind us with love, break our hearts - and heal us, too."

Cover charge is $20 and there is a two-drink minimum per person. The Metropolitan Room is located at 34 West 22 Street. Reservations may be made by calling 212.206.0440.
