Bevan wrote the play STALAG 17 with fellow World War II prisoner Edmund Trzcinski. The play's director Jose Ferrer went on to win a Tony Award. The show opened in 1951, ran for more than a year, and was subsequently adapted for the big screen by director Billy Wilder in 1953. William Holden won an Oscar for his role in the film.

Throughout the 20 years Bevan spent working as a caricaturist for Broadway's famed hang-out, Sardi's restaurant in Midtown, the cartoonist sketched the likes of Denholm Elliot, Maureen Stapleton, Karl Malden, Lucille Ball, Lauren Becall, Jackie Gleason, Zero Mostel, Carol Burnett, Laurence Olivier, Michael and Kirk Douglas, and more.

Bevan was the third of four caricaturists employed by Sardi's since 1927. Richard Baratz is the current artist.
