SURVIVORS Reflects On Love, Guilt and Marriage in the Aftermath of AIDS

SURVIVORS, a new play by James Masten, will be presented as a staged reading as part of the 29th Street Playwrights Collective's popular NEW WORKS SERIES at Bernie Wohl Theatre on Monday, October 16, at 7 pm. Lucy Gram, artistic director of One BiRD Productions, will direct.

In SURVIVORS, Jeff Gold is about to marry the perfect man, but his long-lost friend Tricia, Thucydides (the historian), the ghost of his lover Dennis, and a young, hot hustler keep pushing their way into his High Line apartment. Will Jeff ever forgive himself for surviving?

SURVIVORS was developed at the Write Now Workshop and was the inaugural Michael Warren Powell Memorial Reading presented by the 29th Street Playwrights Collective in 2016.

The cast features Twinkle Burke (GOTHAM, WHORTICULTURE/Bernie Wohl/Dixon Place), Kyle Minshew (PROMETHEUS BOUND (NYTW), DEVIL & THE DEEP), Max Meyers (FUN HOME/Regional), Steven Dean Moore (SLEEP NO MORE) and Andrew Oakes (RENT/Dublin), with stage directions read by Sarah Jane Schostack (CRY HAVOC/Lincoln Center/Asst Director).

James Masten is the author of Aging with HIV: A Gay Man's Guide. His short play, TAHITI, was included in a festival juried by Village Playwrights for Gay Pride 2017 at The Center in New York City. His other short plays, PATTY'S SHORT CAKE and GROUP have been read at the Bernie Wohl Center.

Upcoming from the NEW WORKS SERIES 2017: LUST & LIES by Robin Rice on November 13, and BREATH BY BREATH by Michael Wells-Oaks on December 4.
