Today, the YouTube partnership network DanceOn produced a flash mob featuring 50 New York City dancers to honor the 50th Anniversary of the Academy Award winning film, West Side Story.

The secret flash mob will take place at Duffy Square in Times Square at approximately 12:00PM. The iconic choreography originated by Jerome Robbins will be re-created by choreographer Joshua Bergasse (Smash, NBC). Of the dancers taking part in the flash mob, 28 have performed in productions of West Side Story and six were part of Broadway's 2009 revival. Some members of the flash mob are currently performing in the Broadway productions of Follies, Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, Rock of Ages and Wicked.

Tuesday November 15, 2011 marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1962 Best Picture, West Side Story. To commemorate this historical moment, the film will be released for the first time in high-definition on Blu-ray, and as part of a limited edition collector's set.

West Side Story was conceived, directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, a score by Leonard Bernstein and a book by Arthur Laurents. Check out the event below!
