This past July, Broadway stars joined in Washington for 'A Broadway Celebration: In Performance at the White House,' to promote arts education. The event featured Nathan Lane, Idina Menzel, Audra McDonald, Elaine Stritch, Brian D'Arcy James, Chad Kimball, Tonya Pinkins, Marvin Hamlisch, Karen Olivo, Assata Alston, Danielle Arci and Constantine Rousouli. The event will air on PBS October 20 at 9 p.m. as part of the PBS music series, 'In Performance at the White House.' Below, Broadway World brings you exclusive interview clips from before the performance, featuring Broadway stars talking about their favorite PBS programs.

President Obama has said that, "the arts are not somehow apart from our national life, the arts are at the heart of our national life." Not only did the evening feature performances by the leading theater voices in the country, local dance students from Duke Ellington School of the Arts were able to add their talents to the celebration as well, working with Tony award-winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell to perform a segment from the musical HAIRSPRAY.
