Some of the most majestic animals in the world will be visiting the Zoo...raptors, also know as bird of prey. An exciting event is planned with audience participation in demonstrations of these magnificent hunters. See how they fly, what they eat and learn about special abilities.Talons...Birds of Prey, an organization dedicated to educating the public about the role raptors (hawks, owls, falcons) play in our global environment, imparts knowledge to its audiences through a riveting and interactive display of their falcons in action, including participation from the audience. Raptors landing on your arm is not easy to come by! Master Falconer, Lorrie Schumacher, and her daughter Talon Skye demonstrate through their program the amazing skills and features of raptors and all of it happens right before your eyes. The Staten Island Zoo is pleased to have professional falconers provide a glimpse into the lives of falcons and the relationships that have existed between falcons and falconers dating back 4,000 years.
