Through a unique partnership with the Roundabout Theater Company's Education Department and with the generous cooperation of Lifetime, the Lifetime network cut of the film Showing Rootsdirected by Michael Wilson will be screened at the Brooklyn School of Music and Theater (883 Classon Ave, Brooklyn) at 1pm on Wednesday, May 25.

Students at the Brooklyn School of Music and Theater will be the first to see the Lifetime version of Showing Rootsin advance of the network television premiere at 10pm on Thursday, May 26. Following the screening, there will be a talkback with the students in attendance, discussing the film's story of dream fulfillment and the power of friendship.

Notes director Michael Wilson: "My goal is to have conversation with the students about the relevant themes of the film, its inspiration from the novel and the original mini-series "Roots;" discuss how film stories can be a means of better understanding history, of building a community that embraces tolerance, inclusivity and opportunity; and most importantly, a discussion of the film industry itself, especially the wide array of artists and craftspeople whom are needed to make a picture."

Showing Roots takes place in 1977 during the premiere of the miniseries "Roots." Set in a small segregated Southern town, where there are definite 'right' and 'wrong' sides of the tracks, two young women-one white (SAG Award winner Maggie Grace), one black (Emmy Award winner Uzo Aduba)-forge an unlikely friendship that sparks a search for independence, love and the perfect hairdo. Also stars Oscar nominees Elizabeth McGovern and Cicely Tyson, as well as Adam Brody. Screenplay and produced by Susan Batten; directed by DGA Award nominee Michael Wilson.
