Rue McClanahan to Premiere New One-Woman Show in Chicago

Emmy Award winner Rue McClanahan, whose acting career has spanned more than four decades is developing a new one-woman show reports the Chicago tribune, based on her 2007 autobiography "My First Give Husbands." 

The show, for which McClahanan is said to have Broadway aspirations is expected to premiere in Chicago this fall. 

McClanahan played the sexy Southern vixen, Blanche Devereaux, on the Emmy Award- winning television series, "The Golden Girls." With her breezy sex appeal and sharp comedic timing, McClanahan infused her character with a sassy joie de vivre that captured the hearts of audiences around the world.  Recently, she played Madame Morrible in Broadway's Wicked.

Reading excerpts from her recent autobiography, "My First Five Husbands?and the Ones That Got Away," McClanahan reveals her life in and out of the spotlight in a deliciously entertaining, funny memoir about love, marriage, men and getting older that is every bit as colorful as the characters she plays.

From her roles on Broadway opposite Dustin Hoffman and Brad Davis, to her first television appearances on "Maude" and "All in the Family," to "The Golden Girls" era and beyond, "My First Five Husbands?" is the story of one woman's quest to find herself

Told with McClanahan's saucy wit and Southern charm, "My First Five Husbands?" is a deliciously entertaining take on life and love from an irrepressible star, followed by a Q&A with McClanahan, and special book signing after the performances.  Books are available at the Rainey Faye Bookstore, 940 Broad Street, around the corner from Playhouse on the Green, and available for purchase at the performances.
