Just announced that RudduR Dance received a grant for its Latin American tour to combat divisive rhetoric by presenting thematically empowering dance, through community engagement, and through person-to-person cultural diplomacy. This tour is supported in part by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through USArtists International. RudduR Dance is taking Empowered and their community engagement activities across the Americas. RudduR Dance has been invited to present Empowered in:

  • Guayaquil, Ecuador - June 2019 Festival Fragmentos de Junio*;
  • Guadalajara, Mexico - August 2019 at Danza PALCCO (pending);
  • Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - September 2019 at EDANCO;
  • Belize City, Belize - November 2019 at Dance X Belize.

"RudduR Dance is more than just a dance company" proclaimed Brenda Soya, then Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy Burkina Faso during the Company's 23-day, two-city tour to Burkina Faso. Soya facilitated their tour to the Ouagadougou International Dance Festival in Ouagadougou and the In-Out Festival in Bobo-Dioulasso, which was supported by World Learning Arts Envoy, The US Embassy Burkina Faso and Rapid Response through American Dance Abroad. As cultural diplomats, the Company performed in conventional and very unconventional venues, including a prison, military camp, and on TV. RudduR Dance also gave a command performance for the Mogho Naaba Roi de Mosse - the Emperor of the Mossi people.

"We are excited to add aerial bungee classes to our list of community engagement activities that includes masterclasses in contemporary ballet, modern, and aerial silk," says Rudd.

Founder, Jamaican-born Christopher Rudd - formerly of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, Cirque du Soleil, and Carolina Ballet - blends contemporary ballet with theatricality and aerial artistry to create provocative experiences that address social and political landscapes. RudduR Dance's mission of bettering the world through dance coupled with Christopher's unique mix of dance genres has helped them quickly gain national and international recognition. Since its founding in 2015, RudduR Dance has presented works locally in 4 NYC boroughs - Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx - nationally in Florida, Utah, and Texas, and internationally in France, Trinidad & Tobago (twice), and Burkina Faso, West Africa.

In 2018, RudduR Dance, in Partnership with Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture and the CUNY Dance Initiative presented their first single-billed show, Empowered, in the Bronx.

Fiscally sponsored by Miami Dance Futures Inc. and Pentacle, RudduR Dance has been supported by World Learning Arts Envoy, The US Embassy Burkina Faso, USArtists International through Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, New Music USA, CUNY Dance Initiative, Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture, New World School of the Arts Alumni Foundation, Career Transition For Dancers, STREB's GO! Emerging Artists Commissioning
