Michael Riedel reports this morning in the Post that Broadway may be welcoming another U.K. import this spring in John Logan's RED, which is currently playing at the Donmar Warehouse through February 6.

Red is a biopic of Mark Rothko, the 20th century painter known for his large canvases of color. Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Mark Rothko takes on his greatest of creating a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. The play details Rothko's struggle to accept his growing riches and praise, and how they lead to his ultimate downfall. The play stars Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne

Directed by Michael Grandage, the creative team includes Christopher Oram (set), Neil Austin (lights), and Adam Cork (composer and sound).

The Donmar most recently brought Hamlet, starring Jude Law to Broadway this past fall.  Also over from the U.K. this season is Lucy Prebble's Enron, opening at the Broadhurst Theatre in April.

Riedel asserts that Broadway vet Arielle Tepper is behind the Red transfer, "playing cute to get a good theater for "Red": She sent Robert Wankel, president of The Shubert Organization, a box of paintbrushes."
