Company/ Choreographer Biographies

Reject Dance Theatre (RDT) is a modern/contemporary dance company founded by Smith College MFA alums Rebecca Hite Teicheira, Stephanie Simpson, and Stephen Ursprung. The mission of RDT is to continuously challenge an audience's perception of dance; whether it be by exploring the boundaries of one's physicality, integrating various mediums of visual and dramatic arts, challenging preconceived notions of commercialized dance forms, or delving into the psychology of dance. We find work most exciting when our bodies become strange to us; when we can look at the human form in a different light and discover new qualities within our moving selves that have previously lain dormant. Currently, RDT is based in New York City and Boston and has performed in a variety of venues and festivals across the country including Los Angeles' "MixMatch Dance Festival," Martha's Vineyard's "Built on Stilts Festival," Triskelion Arts in Brooklyn, New Britain Museum of American Art in CT, Trinity Rep Theater in Providence, RI, Boston Center for the Arts in MA, and many more.

Yung-Li Chen is a Dancer & Choreographer who currently lives and works in NYC. She received her BFA in Dance from the Chinese Culture University. In 2005 she relocated to the USA to attend the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, SUNY, NY, receiving her MFA in Choreography in 2008. Upon graduation, she founded the YUNG-LI DANCE Company in New York City performing throughout Japan, Spain, and Mexico winning a number of composition awards. Her choreographies include commissioned works for the Delaware Art Museum, The Smithsonian's Museum Day Live!, Dixon Place, the NYC DOT 's Summer Streets, and many independent creations. Prominent stages have presented works by Yung-Li including the American Dance Guild Festival, FLICfest Festival, and Jacobs Pillow Inside/ Out. She is also very honored to have participated in dance residencies such as the International Choreographers Residency at the American Dance Festival (NC), The Field Artist Residency Program (NYC), and MANA Arts Residency (NJ).

FERTILE GROUND is a monthly new works showcase for emerging and established artists now in its 9th season, producing the work of over 50 choreographers each year. This non-curated performance event features five or six choreographers each evening and includes a post-performance discussion with wine and cheese, moderated by Green Space's Artistic Director, Valerie Green.
