Reduced Shakespeare Company to Shorten Star Wars

By: Aug. 11, 2006

The New York Times reports that George Lucas' classic sci-fi series Star Wars will receive a "Complete Works"-esque treatment.

Lucas has granted permission for the Reduced Shakespeare Company to compress more than 13 hours into just 20 minutes of intergalactic adventure.  Star Wars Shortened will star Adam Long, who will also write and direct it.  The Reduced Shakespeare Company is best-known for their 97-minute Complete Works of Shakespeare.

On August 17th, Star Wars Shortened will be filmed in performance at the Criterion Theatre in London for Sky Movies.

"The Reduced Shakespeare Company is a three-man comedy troupe known for taking long, serious subjects and reducing them into short, sharp comedies. They have created six stage shows, two television specials, and numerous radio pieces. In addition to ongoing tours of the U.S. and Great Britain, they have performed at the White House, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center and London's West End. The boys have been seen on all the major American and British television networks and are heard frequently on both National Public Radio and the BBC," states the company's website.
