RIOULT Dance Company Brings Local Bronx Children to the Stage
Starting in the fall of 2011 RIOULT Dance Company, under the direction of choreographer Pascal Rioult, forged a partnership with CUNY performing arts centers to bring dance and arts education to each NYC borough. The two-year Five-Borough Arts-in-Education Tour launches with its first production of Small Steps, Tiny Revolutions featuring local Bronx students at The Lovinger Theater at Lehman College in the Bronx on Sunday, December 4th at 3:00pm.
Open auditions were held in the Bronx for 8-13 year-olds, and 16 students were selected to perform alongside the professional RIOULT dancers. Students are currently rehearsing with the company in preparation for their special debut.
Small Steps, Tiny Revolutions is based on a poem about a young boy and his distanced father who disapproves of his son’s love of dance. The audience witnesses the transformative power of love as the father journeys into the boy’s imaginary world in an attempt to understand him and try to rescue their relationship. The whimsical costumes and sets used in this production set the tone for this magical and touching journey. The family matinee performance will close with RIOULT’s powerful Bolero, set to the renowned music of Maurice Ravel.
