Project Shaw's presentation of the classic The Doctor's Dilemma will be presented at the Player's Club (16 Gramercy Park South) on March 19th at 7 PM.

The reading will feature Brian Murray, Kate Baldwin, Patricia Conolly, Brent Harris, Timothy Jerome, Simon Jones, Howard Kissel, Malachy McCourt, Sarah Moon, Charlotte Moore, Mark Saturno, Michael Schulman, Michael Tisdale, and Lenny Wolpe; it will be hosted by theatre critic Jeremy McCarter.  David Staller directs and produces.

"Shaw's incendiary story follows one Mrs. Jennifer Dubedat who  loves and idolizes her brilliant artist husband, Louis, who is dying of tuberculosis. She goes to a doctor and convinces him to save her husband. The doctor can keep only so many patients, and must choose who is worth saving, but is convinced that Louis' artistic talents make him worthy. But when he and several colleagues meet Louis, they discover that he is in fact a smooth-talking money-grabbing scoundrel. They also learn that he has another wife, whom he has abandoned. So, the doctor has a problem: he can let Louis die, leaving Mrs. Dubedat with her idealized image, or save him and his artistic talents, but force her to face his many flaws. It's Shaw taking on the entire medical profession; along with art, sex and finance," state press materials.

Every Project Shaw reading has been SRO.

The April presentation by Project Shaw will boast an all-critic cast: Androcles and the Lion on April 23rd.  Be there to see the critics as Christians being thrown to the lions. Androcles will be played by Seth Rudetsky. The Lion will be played by Bruce Vilanch.  Some of the other cast members will include Charles Isherwood, Roma Torre, Michael Riedel, Howard Kissel, David Cote, Michael Musto, Rex Reed and Michael Kuchwara.

Shaw began his profession career in the theatre as a critic. Not happy with the plays he reviewed, he resolved to write the sort of plays he wanted to see. So, Mr. Staller has been inviting critics to take part in these non-reviewed readings.

Tickets are $15.  Visit www.projectshaw.com for tickets and more information.
