On Monday, May 11, 2009, the Lower Eastside Service Center held its 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Silent Auction at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City, hosted by Melissa Russo, WNBC Anchor and Government Affairs Reporter. LESC proudly honored three distinguished citizens for their commitment of service.

Since 1959, LESC has pioneered and provided treatment and care to tens of thousands of New Yorkers living with substance abuse and mental illness, services such as: medical healthcare, vocational services, substance abuse treatment, mental healthcare, permanent supportive housing, and more. Recently, we launched yet another leading edge program called Bridge2Life Camp and Kids Club for children from families with histories of homelessness, poverty, addiction, violence, illness and crime.

We were lucky enough to count Stephen Hanna (starring as the adult Billy in Billy Elliot), Bret Shuford (Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid) and Kathy Brier (Tracy Turnblad in Broadway's Hairspray 2003-2004 and Marcie Walsh McBain on ABC's One Life to Live) as guests. Also in attendance was Stanley Zareff, one of the evening's honorees. Mr. Zareff is not only the VP of Corporate Communications at Credit Suisse, but also an actor and serves on the Boards of Urban Stages and the Broadway Walk of Stars.
