Jay Armstrong Johnson Live at Feinstein's/54 Below was officially released last week, and Johnson celebrated the album's release last Sunday evening, September 18, at The West End Lounge (955 West End Avenue). Scroll down for photos from the concert!
In attendance were Allison Guinn (On the Town, HAIR), Amanda Green (Hands on a Hardbody, Bring it On, High Fidelity), Alysha Umphress (On The Town, American Idiot, On a Clear Day), Ann Harada (Ave Q, SMASH, Cinderella), Gerard Canonico (American Idiot, Spring Awakening), Yasmine Al Massri (QUANTICO), Lenny Platt (QUANTICO, How to Get Away With Murder, Gotham), Megan Fairchild (On the Town, Principal NYC ballet) and more.
Johnson, currently starring on ABC's smash-hit drama "Quantico" and recent star of Broadway's acclaimed 2014 revival of On The Town, made his Feinstein's/54 Below solo debut on April 27, 29 and 30. Singing everything from Sondheim to Dixie Chicks, Johnson was joined all three nights by a full eight-piece all star-band and special guests Billy Lewis Jr. ("Glee") and Lindsay Mendez (Wicked). On April 30th only, Todrick Hall (MTV's "Todrick") guest-starred alongside Lewis Jr. and Mendez.
Johnson has wowed Broadway audiences in On The Town (Chip), Hands on a Hardbody (Greg), Hair (Claude), and Catch Me If You Can. The New York Times called his performance as Anthony Hope in the New York Philharmonic's Sweeney Todd "affecting and ardent," and his performance as Herman in Encores' Most Happy Fella "a standout." Known for his thrilling vocal prowess in modern projects like Ryan Scott Oliver's 35MM (Galapagos Art Space, iTunes) and for his skill and charm at old-school song and dance in projects like Hello Dolly (The MUNY), Johnson recently premiered his personal, eclectic solo show at Feinstein's/54 Below.
