Photo Coverage: It's Heaven Nowadays at CHICAGO- Inside Jennifer Nettles and Carly Hughes' First Bows!
Jennifer Nettles and Carly Hughes just joined the Broadway company of Chicago in the starring roles of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly for a limited eight-week engagement -- continuing through Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St.). Check out photos from their opening night bows below!
Jennifer Nettles has become one of the most popular singer-songwriters in music today and recently had a #1 Country Album with her solo debut CD "That Girl." As the lead vocalist of the country group Sugarland, the band exploded onto the music scene in 2004 and have worldwide sales of over 22 million (albums and singles) to date, have achieved eight No. 1 singles and have won numerous awards including trophies from the Grammys, AMAs, ACM Awards, CMT Music Awards and CMA Awards.
Carly Hughes most recently starred as the Leading Player in Broadway's Tony Award-winning revival of Pippin. She has also appeared on Broadway in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Lucille/Lead Shirelle), The Book of Mormon, Ghost, the revival of Ragtime, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiringChicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today's tabloids.
