Perry Payne, Annie Ross, Denise Rosner, et al. Set for July at the Metropolitan Room

The Metropolitan Room has announced its July line-up which will include Perry Payne, Richard Malavet, and the Metrostar Talent Challenge. Come to the Metropolitan Room every Saturday from 11PM-2AM for the piano lounge- no cover, and no minimum.

On July 2 at 10pm Jenna Esposito will host MetroJam, the monthly open mic at the Metropolitan room. Each month boasts a different guest star, a terrific lineup of performers and the fabulous MetroJam House Band: John DiPinto on piano, Ritt Henn on bass, and Bobby Sher on drums. Singers and instrumentalists of all types are encouraged to join in the fun - just bring two copies of your music (uptempo songs are preferred) and arrive early to sign up (sign-up begins at 9:30 p.m.). $15

On July 6, 7, and 9 at 7pm Perry Payne will be accompanied by Michael Rice and His Travelling Three in a musical engagement at the Metropolitan Room in Manhattan's historic Flatiron district. With Ray Kilday on bass, Steve Bartosik on percussion and Amy Hamilton-Soto on violin, the acclaimed singer/actress/comedienne has hand-picked an eclectic program that includes the music of Adair, Wallowich, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Cy Coleman, Steve Randoy, Ethel Waters and Mancini, alongside fellow Southerners Trisha Yearwood and Michael Rice & Mike Craver... and pop superstars Sting and Pink. The evening aims to offer a breezy diversion from a crazy year, chaperoned by Payne, a well-traveled New York-based entertainer. Her off-Broadway performance in Keith Thompson's "Kooky Tunes" garnerEd Kudos from InTheatre Magazine and Show Business Weekly, which named her one of the top 10 funniest performers in New York cabaret. Her holiday novelty single "Santa Claus Won't Get Lit Up (At the Trailer Park Gate This Year)," which she wrote with Rice, is an annual Christmastime favorite at radio stations across the nation, and has been featured in Billboard Magazine as a Top Ten Holiday Song for much of this decade. $20

On July 8 and 21 at 7:00PM Sigali Hamberger will return to reprise her latest act, "Solstice", which was recently described by Cabaret Scenes magazine as an "impressive Metropolitan Room debut." In a departure from her take on the classics that earned her this year's 1930s Idol title, Sigali explores a more contemporary and complex set of standards, art songs, and Broadway gems from Arlen and Azanavour to Bernstein and Bucchino. She lends her shimmering soprano to the contemporary works of Sondheim, Guettel, and Yeston along the way. Musical Direction & Arrangements by Ido Alexander; Directed by Eric Michael Gillett.

Sigali wants nothing more than to do just that. She is thrilled to be this year's reigning 1930s Idol champion, particularly because of her affinity for the popular music of the early 20th century. Her theater work includes roles in The King & I, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, She Loves Me, The Mikado, Country Club, and A Christmas Carol. She finds herself most at home on the cabaret stage these days singing the standards both old and new from the American songbook to Broadway. Sigali has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, where she did not study theater, and an MBA from Rice University, where she did not study singing. The Metrostar Talent Challenge will take place on July 12, 19, and 26 at 7pm. The Metropolitan Room hosts Manhattan's most exciting "American Idol" style competition. The third annual "Metrostar Talent Challenge" Trials begin July 12, 2010 with a grand finale on August 30th, 2010. Expert judges and the audience score each singer; the scores are tallied at the end of the evening and the top 18 singers from the July Trials will advance to the August Quarter Finals. The top 18 finalists will be announced at the end of the third night of Trials. $15
