Pace University Presents ROMEO & JULIET, 10/22-24
By: Nicole Rosky
Pace University welcomes two Shakespeare classics this month, with The Acting Company's Romeo and Juliet from Oct. 22-24 and Shakespeare's Globe's The Merry Wives of Windsor from Oct. 28-Nov. 7 at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts. These two productions are presented as part of the 2010-2011 Shakespeare at Pace season.
The Acting Company, in association with the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, begins its national tour of Romeo and Juliet with a three-day engagement at Pace. Starring Kaliswa Brewster as Juliet and Alejandro Rodriguez as Romeo, the show tells the iconic romantic tragedy of innocent young lovers falling victim to family hatred and cruel destiny. In this stirring new production, director Penny Metropulos, who has directed the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for 18 years, brings forth this timeless and moving story of youthful passion and ecstasy.Shakespeare's Globe returns to Pace with its heralded 2008 production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. With its physical gags, linguistic jokes and vivid characters, this comedy celebrates the foundations of the modern TV sitcom. Director Christopher Luscombe, once a Shakespeare comic actor himself, takes full advantage of this witty and affable play, directing a production full of irresistible charm-complimented by vibrant designs from Janet Bird and a jaunty score from composer Nigel Hess.
