One Man's War, based on the true life story of a US marine, is currently in previews at off-Broadway's Triad Theatre (158 West 72nd Street, 2nd Fl.), and will open on March 11th.

The play, which is written and directed by Tony Award-nominee Sammy Dallas Bayes, features an ensemble that includes Ed Bergtold, Jeremy Eric Feldman, James Gagne, Max Hambleton, Daniel Kipler, Aubrey Levy, Mike Marinaccio, Brian Nemiroff, Chris Perry, Scott Seliga, Andrew Smith, and Lane Wray.

"One Man's War follows the story of New York City gang member Doug Hulbert who, in the 1960s, was given a choice between going to jail and going to the Marine Corps. He chooses the Corps and his life changes forever. The play follows Doug and his fellow Marines from boot camp at Paris Island through their tour of duty in Vietnam. Through Doug's experiences, the audience is given a firsthand account of how the military prepares a young man mentally and physically to handle the brutalities of war and life's burdens. The audience is privy to the innermost thoughts, feelings, and actions of the young men who are sent into war by their leaders and who return home to the scorn and abandonment of their fellow Americans," state press notes.

Bayes began his career in New York, where he worked with renowned directors and choreographers such as Daniel Petrie, Donald Sadler, Harold Prince, Jerome Robbins and Stephen Schwartz. Robbins became his mentor, critiquing his Bayes' compositions and encouraging him in his pursuit of a career as a director/choreographer. Frank Loesser took him under his wing giving him his first job as choreographer for the Broadway musical Canterbury Tales, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award. Bayes has directed and/or choreographed for: George Rose, Hermine Badley, LeVar Burton, Ben Vereen, Anita Morris, Rita Moreno, Bette Midler, David Copperfield, Topol, Sandy Duncan, and more. He has been recognized for his contributions to theater abroad receiving numerous awards for outstanding work in the theater.

The show's performance schedule is every Saturday at 3:00pm. Tickets are $35.00 for adults; $25.00 for veteran/active military and seniors, and $20.00 for students w/ ID. Tickets are available at theatermania.com and by calling (212) 352-3101
