Nixon, Parker, Etc. to Reunite for Sex and the City Film

By: Jul. 05, 2007

Variety reports that Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis will once again swill Cosmopolitans as the stars of the upcoming film version of "Sex and the City."

Produced and distributed by New Line Cinemas, the long-in-development "Sex and the City" film will reunite Drama Desk-nominee Parker (Once Upon a Mattress, Wonder of the World; film: The Family Stone) as Carrie Bradshaw, Tony Award-winner Nixon (Rabbit Hole, The Women) as Miranda Hobbes, Cattrall (London's The Cryptogram, Whose Life Is It Anyway; film: The Bonfire of the Vanities) as Samantha Jones and Davis (Deck the Halls, The Shaggy Dog) as Charlotte York.  The series' executive producer Michael Patrick King will direct and write the screenplay, as well as produce alongside Parker, John Melfi and series creator Darren Star (who based "Sex and the City" upon the columns by Candace Bushnell).

"The pic got close to happening about two years ago, but progress halted when Cattrall backed away. She wanted script control and a salary close to that of Parker, who was more highly paid than the others because she was co-executive producer of the series. Whatever tensions existed are gone now, sources said. Cattrall has a deal she's happy with, one the sources said gives her input on her scenes, a fat salary and a future series deal with HBO," states the article.

An international hit and style trendsetter, "Sex and the City" ran on HBO from 1998 through 2004.  It followed the professional, romantic and sexual exploits of four successful Manhattan friends - refined Charlotte, raunchy Samantha, ambitious Miranda and romantic Carrie.

No other casting has been announced, although there are rumors that supporting stars such as Chris Noth might take part in the film version.
