Niki J. Borger Releases New One-Act Play Collection IN-BETWEEN
The collection of interconnected plays was designed with flexible, gender-neutral casting for schools, theaters, and acting programs.
Playwright and actor Niki J. Borger has announced the release of In-Between, a new collection of eight interconnected one-act plays exploring grief, identity, mortality, love, and the fragile beauty of the human experience.
Designed with flexible, gender-neutral casting in mind, the plays can be performed individually or together as a full-length theatrical experience. With minimal age restrictions and adaptable casting requirements, In-Between offers directors, acting studios, schools, and independent theaters a rare opportunity to stage emotionally grounded contemporary work without being limited by traditional casting structures. "For small theaters, casting, and finding rehearsal slots that work for everyone, are often the biggest challenge. In-Between is set up in a way to make both significantly easier", says Borger.
The collection ranges from existential drama to light-hearted comedy and intimate human storytelling, allowing performers and audiences alike to move through a wide emotional landscape. Early reactions to the plays emphasize the humor and the broader perspectives that are given in the plays, allowing for an emotional and grounded experience.
Borger's previous writing credits include the award-winning short films Because I Could and A Portrayal of a Subtle Suicide. She also contributed original plays to the Extravaganza One Act Festivals in 2024 and 2025, developed under the direction of Wolfgang Bodison.
"In-Between grew out of a desire to create stories that actors could truly inhabit," says Borger. "I wanted to write characters that weren't confined by gender, age, or stereotype, but rooted in recognizable human experiences - grief, fear, hope, love, and the search for meaning."
At a time when theaters and acting programs increasingly seek flexible and inclusive material, In-Between aims to expand opportunities for performers while remaining emotionally accessible and deeply human.
In-Between is now available in paperback and ebook formats through major online retailers. For review copies, please contact Niki J. Borger directly via her webpage.
