The cast of ABC's DIRTY DANCING reboot gets even starrier. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nicole Scherzinger has signed on to portray Penny, the role played by Cynthia Rhodes in the 1987 classic.

The three-hour TV project, written and executive produced by Jessica Sharzer, follows "Baby (Abigail Breslin), an innocent young woman who vacations with her affluent parents at an early-1960s Catskill Mountains resort and gets swept off her feet by Johnny (Colt Prattes), a handsome, working-class dance instructor." Penny is Johnny's dance partner at the summer resort who finds out she is pregnant and must teach Baby how to dance in her stead. As previously reported, Debra Messing has been cast as Marjorie Houseman, Baby's mother.

Grammy nominee Adam Anders and Peer Astrom (Glee) will take on the music for the ABC project, to be helmed by Wayne Blair. Tony winner and HAMILTON choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler will choreograph the show.

Scherzinger was last seen on ABC during Season 10 of Dancing With the Stars, in which she picked up the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. The former Pussycat Doll is currently in talks to play Grizabella in the Broadway revival of CATS. The actress made her West End debut in the role in 2014.
