On July 18th at the Castillo Theatre Company (543 West 42nd Street between 10th and 11th) the 1st year of the New York Innovative Theatre Awards will be celebrated along with the announcement of the nominees of the 2004-2005 season.

The New York Innovative Theatre Awards (IT Awards) are given annually to honor individuals & organizations who have achieved artistic excellence in the Off-Off-Broadway theatre. The New York IT Awards organization recognizes the unique & essential role Off-Off-Broadway plays in contributing to American & global culture, believing that recognizing excellence in Off-Off-Broadway will expand audience awareness & appreciation of the full New York theatre experience.

Cocktails will begin at 6 PM, with the announcement following at 7 PM; a reception will be held at 7:30 PM.

The IT Award Categories are:

    * Outstanding Actress & Actor in a Lead Role  
    * Outstanding Actress & Actor in a Featured Role
    * Outstanding Solo Performance
    * Outstanding Director
    * Outstanding Sound Design, Lighting Design, Set Design & Costume Design
    * Outstanding Original Music
    * Outstanding Original Full-length Script & Outstanding Original Short Script
    * Outstanding Choreography/Movement
    * Outstanding Ensemble
    * Outstanding Production of a Play
    * Outstanding Production of a Musical
    * Outstanding Performance Art Production

The New York IT Awards is a not-for-profit arts organization supporting Off-Off-Broadway, by celebrating & recognizing extraordinary Off-Off-Broadway theatre, nurturing the community of Off-Off-Broadway & honoring the artistic heritage of Off-Off-Broadway.
