The New York Choral Society (NYCS) has announced the launch of a search to identify a new Music Director to lead choral activities beginning in the 2012-2013 season. The new candidate will succeed John Daly Goodwin who has decided to make his 25th season as Music Director his last.

The new Music Director will be responsible for continuing the Choral Society's standard of musical excellence. Over its 52 seasons, the NYCS has become recognized for its outstanding performances in prominent music venues in New York City and around the world. The NYCS currently self-produces two concerts at Carnegie Hall with professional orchestras and world-class soloists and guest artists. It also accepts several high-profile paid engagements each season. For the last 18 years the chorus has performed at the annual Richard Tucker Foundation Music Gala at Avery Fisher Hall and has performed 12 operas with the Opera Orchestra of New York. It has also made nine guest appearances with Andrea Bocelli including several performances in Madison Square Garden.

"On behalf of the entire chorus, I would like to thank Maestro Goodwin for his many years of distinguished service," said Michael Colosi, Chairman of the NYCS Board of Trustees. "The chorus has never been on more solid footing, either musically or financially, than it is today. While we can never replace him, we wish him well and look forward to identifying the right director to lead us into our next chapter."

A detailed job description for the position and a detailed history and repertoire list are available at www.nychoral.org. Candidates should have at least ten years experience leading large symphonic choruses and conducting orchestras in a wide variety of repertoire as well as a demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing arts organizations in the 21st century.

Applicants will be evaluated by the NYCS Search Committee. Any expressions of interest from qualified candidates are welcome and will be kept in confidence. All applications must be received by July 15, 2011. Please send résumé, letter of application, repertoire list, and discography via email to nychoralmd@gmail.com. Hard copy applications or other submissions, such as performance DVDs, should be mailed to: The New York Choral Society, Attn: Search Committee, 119 W. 57th Street, Suite 1215, New York, NY 10019.
